ONLINE PSYCHOTHERAPIST

Dr Sukhi
Sembi

I am an integrative psychotherapist dedicated to the holistic well-being of individuals, bridging the past and the present to create a meaningful “here and now” experience.

My approach

Person-centred psychotherapy

I trained as a person-centred psychotherapist and hold empathic attunement, unconditional positive regard for individuals and aim to be appropriately congruent as we work to build a therapeutic relationship.

Parent-infant psychotherapy

My expertise extends to assisting parents with concerns about their attachment bonds with their children; my aim is to help nurture a sensitively attuned parent-child relationship.

Psychoanalysis

My interest lies in understanding how unconscious early childhood experiences influence the adults we become, fostering acceptance of the coping strategies we’ve adopted, some of which may not serve us as effectively as we might think.

Supervision Training

This training involves empowering individuals to reflect on and assess their work. The essence of supervision lies in being led by the supervisee, enabling them to identify and separate emotions related to service users from their own.

Individual therapy

I offer a space for you to explore the ‘real you’, the person who you would like to be. It can be hard at times to own your sense of self, and not the version of you that others in your life need you to be. How much of your life do you live being unaware of who you are, why you do the things you do, why you face the struggles that you face?

Parent-Infant Psychotherapy

I am a qualified parent infant psychotherapist, having worked in this field for over 10 years. I work with parents (mums and/or dads) expecting a baby and with babies up to the age of two years old (1001 Critical days). The transition to parenthood can be challenging, so having some support to manage this transition, understand your babies communication styles is important in building life-long bonds. I have experience of supporting parents through miscarriage, still born, complicated birth experiences or struggling to relate to their baby. There is no such thing as a perfect parent, my work focuses on being ‘good enough’ (Winnicott).

What else can I help with?

Key Relationships

Relationships can be the source of a stress, being with someone can cause individuals to be vulnerable, scared and always on edge. Therapy can help to explore the relation that you have with yourself, and understand how this relationship sets the tone for other relationships in your life.

Trauma

We can all sometimes suffer traumatic experiences in our lives. It can be helpful to talk through these experiences to see if it is possible to make some sense of our childhoods, and the imprints these early experiences have left on us.

Anxiety

Sometimes our emotions can become overwhelming and we cannot see a way to get through to the other end. Not being able to understand why we can become angry or sad for no apparent reason. Therapy can help to understand this compulsion to repeat unhelpful destructive behavior patterns so that we can try to be different.

Life Changes/Bereavement

A diagnosis of any kind can be difficult to accept, for the individual and their family members, it can change your identity immediately. Faced with complicated grief or medical diagnosis, painful emotions can be so long lasting and severe that you have trouble recovering from them and resuming your own life.

Cultural Identity

So, do you sometimes feel you do not fit in, or are you changing parts of yourself so that people do not see you as different? Sometimes we can dislike parts of ourselves that make us different. Therapy can be a place where intersections can be explored in a safe place, acceptance can be found and be nurtured to grow.

Depression

Sometimes life can feel like a cage and whilst it can feel unbearable, the fear of not knowing what is on the other side can keep us stuck. Therapy can sometimes be a safe space to talk.

Supervision

Practice, clinical, and professional supervision are centered around supporting and enhancing the personal well-being of frontline professionals. This involves empowering individuals to reflect on and assess their work. The essence of this supervision lies in being led by the supervisee, enabling them to identify and separate emotions related to service users from their own. Moreover, it helps individuals discern unconscious processes, fostering a deeper understanding of their actions, particularly in roles that continually expose them to traumatic events.

I am currently studying for a Diploma in clinical supervision. To support this, I can provide supervision for a nominal fee. Contact me for details.
